Vocational Training at Anchor House
Submitted by Hector Moreno, Educational/Vocational Director
One of the primary missions of Anchor House is to enable our residents to lead meaningful, productive lives after they leave our facility. We accomplish this by providing a vigorous program of vocational counseling where our residents:
- are initially interviewed to formulate a plan of action towards vocational goals;
- take a basic education test to determine current academic skills;
- are taught basic reading comprehension and math, instruction in those subjects for the more advance is also provided. When appropriate, some residents are also offered assistance in attaining their GED;
- learn basic computer skills, job search, develop a resume and practice effective interviewing techniques;
- receive Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation (DVE) that helps them identify their strengths and clarify their vocational aspirations;
- receive vocational training suitable to his/her needs;
- is assisted in job search.
